Maker Faire for School

Free Program for Viennese Middle Schools & Polytechnic Schools

With Maker Faire for School, we invite Viennese middle schools and polytechnic schools to makerspaces throughout Vienna and inspire them in “Mini Maker Faires” on site for innovation, new technologies, and new fields of work. The “Mini Maker Faire” events will take place in May 2023. Participation is free! The program is exclusively aimed at middle schools & polytechnic schools.

The Maker Faire for School program is already fully booked. However, we still have a quota of free tickets for interested school classes for the event on June 3 & 4, 2023. Children can look forward to a wide range of workshops and a Maker Rally with exciting hands-on stations at Maker Faire Vienna. The main prize: a 3D printer for your own school class! The tickets can be claimed by the students individually, so the school class does not have to come to the event together.

Maker Faire for School Program 2023

Mini Maker Faire Happylab: Curious about 3D printers, laser cutters & Co.? In an interactive tour of our makerspace, we give you insights into Austria’s largest maker community and introduce you to our high-tech machines. As a highlight, there is a hands-on station waiting for you at the end of the tour!

Mini Maker Faire Metalab: In Metalab, as part of Maker Faire for School, there will be a tour of our open workshop with 3D printing, laser cutting, electronics, and woodworking. We show you the concept of hackspaces and shared infrastructure and at the end we also create something for you to take home.

Mini Maker Faire techLAB: Have you ever 3D printed or cut something with a laser? No? Well, then it’s time! Because with these modern tools, everyone can easily become creative and realize their own projects. In this techLAB_Training at the Technical Museum, we present modern production technologies, such as laser cutters, 3D printers, and more. The participants learn how to operate the required computer programs and then implement their first creative projects.

Mini Maker Faire Coder Dojo: CoderDojo is a club for kids and teens who want to learn to program and have fun doing it. At the Mini Maker Faire, students can experiment with Scratch, C#, or Micro:bit.

Mini Maker Faire Austrian Society for 3D Printing: 3D printing? What is it? What can you do with it? Why is it so exciting and why is it so easy? Together we explore what 3D printing is, how it works, and what you can do with it. Many components and prints to touch and feel, and printers to try out give a first glimpse into the technology and show how cool and easy it can be to realize ideas.

Mini Maker Faire MadebyKids Association: Digital Innovators at School Design Thinking - Learning to Program with Scratch for a Sustainable Vienna. Computational thinking and programming are core competencies of the 21st century. In this workshop, we turn the students into young game designers who develop their own mini computer games in teams of 2-3. They quickly master the basics of programming and learn important computer science concepts (e.g., sequence, event, iteration, condition). We work with Scratch 2.0, a free, block-based programming environment specially designed for children and teens.

Maker Faire for School is funded by the Vienna Business Agency. A fund of the City of Vienna.
